Application of Pulsed Thermography and Post-processing Techniques for CFRP Industrial Components

Abstract Several studies demonstrate the effectiveness of pulsed thermography for detection and visualization sub-superficial flaws in composites. Continuous improvement thermal data manipulation makes active an attractive powerful inspection method industrial process control maintenance aims. Therefore, temperature image-processing is major ongoing challenge thermographic research field. However, particular interest inspections to be more addressed its simple relatively fast application; appropriate image processing tool should implemented verified on components, containing manufacturing in-service defects. In proposed research, well-established previously methods were analysed compared different defect typology inside three CFRP components. The main goal not solely focused establishing suitable approach, providing limits processed terms damage type, size distribution. aim work present detailed examples imaging applied similar critical defects, evaluating results among defects mapping capabilities Tanimoto evaluation criterion, coupled also with signal-to-noise ratio as assessment detectability.
